ARCB GUITARS

“FLYING PIG”

“Flying Pig” is my first attempt at making a cigar box guitar using a metal paint can lid resonator. I have made guitars with license plates for resonators, but wanted to do a paint can lid.

So I purchased a paint can lid from CB GITTY

“The Hubcap” Spun Cigar Box Guitar Resonator Cones – choose from 3 sizes!

I chose the 5″ Medium lid, the box also has 2- 1 1/2″ sound holes. The sound hole covers are plastic Gator Ade necks that have been spray painted Gold and filled using metal window screen also painted Gold.

Neck is a 32″ piece of Maple stained with Varathane Antique Walnut stain and sealed with Varathane Clear Gloss. Fret board is a 15″ piece of Paduak, which has been sealed with Varathane Clear Gloss. I used no stain, I left natural.

The fret markers are Turquoise colored beads that I purchased from Micheals Craft store.

Tuning pegs are Brass colored fully sealed and locking pegs. Nut consists of 3- 5/32 metal screws, bridge is a 1 1/2″ piece of threaded rod on a Paduak biscuit. Since Flying Pig has a through body design the tailpiece is the neck itself which protrudes an inch out the bottom of the box.

The pick up used is the CBGITTY, Gittybucker pick up. This is a flat mount cigar box humbucker. Tone/volume have retro Gold colored knobs.

Strings used are bulk .012, .016, .020 stainless steel strings.

Tuned to Open G

G- D- G

If you have any comments, questions please don’t hesitate to send them along and I will do my best to answer. I will be posting more of CB Guitar builds.

So until next time take care, and happy building and remember

All you need is 3 strings !!
