ARCB GUITARS

METEOR 1

Meteor 1 is a build which started out as a Mercury Meteor hub cap that had been sitting in my buddies garage for years! When he asked if I wanted them I jumped at the chance to do another hub cap build, this is the first of 2 I will be doing.

The first thing I had to figure out was how I was going to get the hub cap flatter in the center. So I decided to drill out a 2″ piece of the center of the hub cap.

So once I was able to drill out center section I pounded center down, until center was concave. From there I was able to get my neck wood.

For the neck and fret board I went with White Oak. First the neck is 32″ in length and since this build is a through body design the neck protrudes 1 1/4″ out the end of hub cap.

The fret board is a 16″ piece of White Oak which has no fret lines. The fret makers are Silver round glass beads from Micheal’s Art Supply, the loction markers are traditional white guitar markers.

Both Neck and fret board is stained with an Antique Blue stain and sealed with Varathane Clear Gloss stain.

Meteor 1 Nut and bridge are 6- 5/32″ metal screws and since the build is a through body design the tail piece is the end part of neck. Which has 6 – 3/16″ rivet heads to act as string guides.

Tuning pegs are Chrome fully sealed and locking pegs. Strings are bulk steel which I purchased from CBGITTY .012, .016, .020

Meteor 1 is tuned to Open G

G-D-G

The center hole I covered with some stainless steel screen for better looks and to hide the neck.

Like my other hub cap builds I have left the back open

Meteor 1 has been amplified with a 1 1/8″ round disc Piezo Pickup under the bridge screws. It also has tone/volume controls with retro Black/White knobs.

If you have any comments, questions please don’t hesitate to send them along and I will do my best to answer. I will be posting more of CB Guitar builds.

So until next time take care, and happy building and remember

All you need is 3 strings !!
