Nos. III “88” is the third Hub Cap guitar build. This one I decided to make a bit fancier than the last two builds. I started with a 32″ piece of White Oak for the neck, that was stained and sealed with Varathane Clear Gloss . The neck also has 1/4″ round-over router detail and sports a different head stock design that I used from templates found in Mike Orr’s book
Handmade Music Factory: The Ultimate Guide to Making Foot-Stompin Good Instruments which is an excellent resource, that I highly recommend.
Nos. III has no fret lines, and it’s fret markers are pieces of pine which I stained dark to stand out against the White Oak neck. The fret position markers were cut from aluminum rivets.
The nut consists of 3 – 5/32 metal screws, the bridge is a 2 1/2″ piece of threaded rod placed on top of a 2 1/2 ” piece of 1/4″ oak laminate.
The tailpiece is a
3-string Classic Cigar Box Guitar Tailpiece – Stainless Steel which I purchased from CBGITTY another excellent vendor which sells all things Cigar Box Guitar and more.
Tuners are chrome fully sealed locking pegs. Strings are steel .012, .016, .020 tuned to
“Open G” G-D-G
The pick up on Nos. III is a hand wound vintage style single coil Lipstick pickup. The tone/volume knobs are two white/black die. The Tone knob/die is indicated by 6, and the volume knob/die is indicated by 2. I thought it was a interesting way to play on the “88
Like the previous 2 builds this one and the last one will have a open back. Nos. III also has a steel spring stretched between two hook screws for some extra twang!!

If you have any comments, questions please don’t hesitate to send them along and I will do my best to answer. I will be posting more of my CB guitars.
So until next time take care, happy building, and remember
All you need is 3 Strings !!
