“My Fathers”
![]()
This build started out as a My Father cigar box. I peeled off the label and then using a propane torch burnt the top of the box, leaving the bottom its natural color which gives this guitar a very nice contrast between light and dark wood.
The neck is a 32″ piece of Hickory which I also left natural. It has 1/4″ routered round over design the length of neck from the body to nut. The neck was sealed with Varthane Clear Gloss.
This build has a 15″ piece of White Oak as a fret board, which was stained using a medium Walnut stain and sealed with Varathane Clear Gloss. The fret markers are brass colored leather studs. There are no fret lines on the fret board.
The tuning pegs are brass colored fully sealed locking pegs. the strings are steel .012, .016, .020
Tuned to Open G
G-D-G
The nut consists of 3, 5/32″ metal screws, the bridge is a 1-1/2″ threaded rod. This build is a through body design so the tail piece is part of the neck itself. The neck protrudes 1″ out of the bottom of the cigar box which has 3 holes drilled through and the string guides are 3/16″ rivets.
The guitar has 2, 1-1/2″ sound holes on the top side of the box which have been filled with covers that are made out of plastic Gator Ade bottle necks and window screen. Finally spray painted gold!
My Fathers has tone/volume controls with retro gold knobs, and is amplified by hand wound Rosewood humbucker pickup, and Rosewood trim plate.
If you have any comments, questions please don’t hesitate to send them along and I will do my best to answer. I will be posting more of my CB guitars.
So until next time take care, happy building, and remember
All you need is 3 Strings !!
